Midnight Hunt Ends: How EFCC Tracked Former Minister After 75-Year Sentence Shock
A dramatic manhunt has unfolded following the conviction of former Power Minister Saleh Mamman, after operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission reportedly tracked and arrested him days after he was sentenced to 75 years imprisonment in absentia.
The development has sparked widespread reactions as details continue to emerge about how the anti-corruption agency eventually located the former minister after an intensive search operation.
According to sources within the commission, the operation began immediately after a Federal High Court in Abuja handed down the sentence last week. Investigators reportedly activated intelligence and surveillance measures in a bid to locate Mamman, who had remained out of sight following the court proceedings.
What initially appeared to be a difficult search soon took a dramatic turn.
Sources disclosed that EFCC operatives eventually traced the former minister through his phone and tracked him to an apartment located in the Rigasa area of Kaduna State. The operation reportedly did not end there, as two additional individuals accused of providing shelter to Mamman during the period he was allegedly evading authorities were also arrested.
The arrest was later confirmed by EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede during a press briefing in Abuja.
According to Olukoyede, the arrest took place around 3:30 a.m., bringing an end to weeks of surveillance and intelligence operations.
He described the development as part of broader efforts to reinforce the government’s anti-corruption campaign and demonstrate that accountability measures would continue regardless of status or position.
The case has now intensified public attention on corruption-related prosecutions and raised questions about accountability among public office holders.
With the dramatic arrest now complete, many Nigerians may be watching closely to see what legal developments emerge next in a case already generating significant national interest.
