PDP Crisis Deepens as Wike Camp Fires Back at Makinde Over 2027 Alliance Move

Fresh cracks have emerged within the Peoples Democratic Party as the faction loyal to former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike launched a fierce attack on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over his growing political moves ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Wike-backed faction accused Makinde of pushing “misleading propaganda” after reports surfaced about a political alliance involving a PDP faction and the Allied Peoples Movement in Ibadan.

Speaking during a press briefing, the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, openly distanced the party from the gathering, insisting that the PDP had no official agreement, coalition, or alliance with the APM.

According to him, anyone acting on behalf of the PDP regarding the Ibadan meeting lacked the approval and authority of the party leadership. He warned that the gathering was being wrongly presented to Nigerians as an official PDP political arrangement.

The faction also took a direct swipe at Makinde, declaring that “propaganda has an expiry date,” a statement many political observers see as a sign of intensifying internal power struggles within the opposition party.

The latest clash comes shortly after Makinde’s reported interest in the 2027 presidential race began attracting national attention. Analysts believe the growing tension may further deepen divisions already threatening the unity of the PDP ahead of future elections.

Insiders say the disagreement may not only be about political alliances but also about control, influence, and positioning within the party as major political figures quietly prepare for 2027.

Observers believe the Ibadan gathering may have exposed competing interests within the PDP, especially among influential blocs aligned with different political heavyweights.

With opposition parties under pressure to build stronger coalitions capable of challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress, the public disagreement could complicate efforts to present a united front before the next election cycle.

As tensions continue to rise, many Nigerians are now watching closely to see whether the PDP can survive its internal battles or if fresh defections and deeper political divisions are on the horizon.
