Nigeria and the United Kingdom have reaffirmed their defence partnership to confront emerging security threats through deeper international cooperation.
Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, made this known while hosting the UK High Commission delegation led by High Commissioner Richard Montgomery at Defence Headquarters in Abuja. He praised the UK’s sustained support to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, especially in training, professional military education, and operational capacity building.
According to the CDS, expanding collaboration in intelligence sharing and modern security domains will strengthen Nigeria’s ability to respond to complex threats. He stressed that Nigeria remains committed to continuous professional development within the military.
Montgomery reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to a forward-looking and mutually beneficial partnership, noting steady progress in defence cooperation between both countries.
Meanwhile, Defence Headquarters condemned recent terrorist attacks in parts of Kwara State, assuring Nigerians that troops have been deployed for sustained patrols, surveillance, and joint operations to restore peace and bring perpetrators to justice.
