Benue Horror: Yelwata Still in Ruins After 200 Killed — MUTUK President Slams Tinubu’s Empty Promises

The president of Mzough U Tiv UK (MUTUK), Victor Aleva, has revealed that no rebuilding effort has begun in Yelwata, Benue State, after the deadly herdsmen attack in June which claimed over 200 lives.

President Bola Tinubu had visited Benue in response to renewed killings that left scores dead, many injured, and hundreds displaced.

But months after the visit, Aleva insists that Yelwata remains in total ruins, despite the promises made during the President’s trip.

“I was in Yelewata last Saturday, and I can tell you it is heartbreaking. This is not about politics or gallery play. As I speak, nothing has changed,” Aleva stated on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday.

“I had earlier said that nothing meaningful would come out of the President’s visit. It was just political. Nothing is happening in Yelewata. I have video evidence, testimonies from locals, and I witnessed it myself with my entourage.”

During his visit, Tinubu had directed service chiefs and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to arrest those behind the killings.

Days later, IGP Kayode Egbetokun announced the arrest of 26 suspected masterminds of the massacre.

But Aleva dismissed the announcement, describing it as false.

“That’s a lie. The President scolded the IGP, and in less than 48 hours, they paraded some people. Where are they now? The killings happened on June 13 and 14. It’s been over two months — where are the suspects?” he asked.

Aleva stressed that the attack had nothing to do with farmer-herder clashes but was a deliberate plan to exterminate Yelwata residents.

He emphasized that the people expected the President to order the rebuilding of the community, not issue political statements.
