₦117bn Missing: Panel Flags Irregularities Under Tambuwal

A judicial commission of inquiry has alleged that over ₦117 billion was misappropriated during the eight-year administration of former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

The report, submitted to the Sokoto State Government on Tuesday, was presented by the commission’s chairman, retired Justice Mu’azu Abdulkadir Pindiga. According to him, the inquiry uncovered widespread financial irregularities tied to breaches of procurement laws, weak financial controls, and abuse of executive authority.

Justice Pindiga explained that the commission reviewed contracts, financial records, and official documents, while also hearing sworn testimonies from ministries, departments, agencies, and other stakeholders linked to the previous administration. He said the investigation followed constitutional provisions and was guided by public interest.

The report is structured into five sections, including background, testimonies, findings, recommendations, and a concluding summary to guide government action.

Receiving the report, Governor Ahmed Aliyu stated that the panel was not set up for political revenge but to fulfill constitutional duties. He announced that a committee would prepare a white paper, assuring fairness and transparency in the process.
