Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has shut down rumours of a rift with teammate Gavi, stressing that their bond remains strong despite circulating speculation.
Reports from Spain hinted at tension between the duo after a social media post by Lopez earlier in the summer was interpreted by fans as referencing their personal friendship.
But speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Lopez dismissed the claims as false.
“Gavi has been my friend since I was 12. I’ve known him from my Betis days, and ever since I joined La Masia, he’s been like my brother.
We’ve shared so much together. People will always speculate, but that won’t change anything—he’s still my friend. Our relationship is solid, as always. There’s nothing more to add,” Lopez explained.
The 22-year-old also discussed his decision to remain at Barcelona despite late transfer interest from Chelsea, revealing he turned to senior teammates for advice before rejecting the move.
“I spoke with several teammates… Ter Stegen, for example, as well as Ronald, Pedri, and even Raphinha.
The entire squad supported me this week, and they all wanted me to stay. Their backing meant a lot,” he added.
Lopez, who has been publicly praised by head coach Hansi Flick, is now expected to play a vital role this season after pledging his future to the Catalan giants.
