Former Chief of Staff to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof Ibrahim Gambari, has stated that governance is not rocket science, but Nigeria continues to struggle due to poor leadership recruitment processes.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Gambari said the real challenge lies in how political parties select candidates and present choices to Nigerians during elections. According to him, leadership outcomes will remain disappointing if the fundamentals are ignored.
He stressed that young Nigerians must clearly understand the difference between political parties, their ideologies, and their visions for the future. Without this clarity, youth participation and national progress will remain limited.
Gambari also raised concerns over gender inclusion, noting that Nigeria is yet to produce a female governor, vice president, or president. He described this as unfortunate and reflective of deep-rooted structural problems.
According to him, Nigeria’s future depends on a political system that values merit, vision, youth inclusion, and gender balance, rather than personality-driven politics.
