Zamfara Approves Military Base After Deadly Gwargwabe Bandit Attack

The Zamfara State Government has condemned the deadly bandit attack on Gwargwabe village in Bungudu Local Government Area, which claimed four lives and left homes and food supplies destroyed.

The attack happened on Thursday evening, shortly before Maghrib prayers, when armed bandits invaded the community, torching houses, burning food stores and killing three men and one woman. Several livestock were also lost, worsening the humanitarian impact.

Representing Governor Dauda Lawal at the victims’ burial, Deputy Governor Mani Malam Mummuni announced government approval for a military base in Gwargwabe to strengthen security and enable faster response to attacks. He also urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by sharing timely intelligence.

According to the District Head of Nahuce, Alhaji Sulaiman Marafa, the attack was triggered by the community’s refusal to pay illegal levies demanded by bandits. Government officials assured residents that security would be reinforced to prevent future attacks and restore confidence in the area.
