The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that continued delays in passing the Electoral Bill 2025 could seriously damage the credibility of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party accused the APC-dominated Senate of stalling the bill, raising fears of deliberate attempts to weaken key reforms meant to safeguard future elections.
ADC stressed that proposed amendments—especially those on mandatory electronic voter accreditation and electronic transmission of results—are critical to preventing manipulation. According to the party, further delays could create confusion for political parties and put INEC under pressure, given statutory timelines already counting down.
The party also warned that unclear or late guidelines could become traps for opposition parties and weaken election planning nationwide. With INEC required to publish election notices at least 360 days before polls, ADC insists there is little room left for delay.
ADC called on the National Assembly to act swiftly, urging civil society groups and international partners to mount pressure, warning that Nigeria cannot afford another disputed election cycle.
