The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised concerns over judicial interference in its internal affairs, warning that such actions could damage public trust in the justice system.
Speaking on ARISE Television’s Prime Time, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong criticised the court ruling that nullified the party’s Ibadan convention. He argued that the PDP constitution does not recognise a national caretaker committee and questioned the legal basis of the judgment.
Ememobong stressed that while the party respects the judiciary, courts must avoid meddling in internal party matters to prevent being perceived as political actors. According to him, perception is critical in the administration of justice.
He referenced a widely circulated public engagement between the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court and the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, noting that such interactions—though not illegal—could raise concerns when sensitive political cases are involved.
“Justice must not only be done, it must be seen to be done,” Ememobong said, warning that when perception and reality begin to overlap, confidence in democratic processes is threatened.
The PDP spokesman maintained that the party is not accusing the judiciary but calling for caution to preserve institutional integrity.
