The ongoing strike by workers of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) will continue despite recent court rulings, according to Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC) President, Rifkatu Iortyer.
Speaking on ARISE News, Iortyer said the court case was filed against her and another union leader in their personal capacities, not against the workforce. As a result, workers resolved to sustain the strike, insisting the ruling does not legally bind them.
She dismissed claims that workers had fully resumed duties, alleging that those seen at offices returned under pressure and threats. Iortyer also rejected official claims that most union demands had been met, clarifying that the union initially submitted up to 22 demands before prioritising them at the request of security agencies.
According to her, the strike has already yielded results, including the payment of pension deductions, wage award arrears and hazard allowance owed to health workers. She also cited tenure elongation for directors as a major concern, saying it blocks career progression and has damaged trust between workers and the FCT leadership.
Iortyer stressed that dialogue, not litigation, remains the solution.
