Osun LG Crisis Worsens as Adeleke, PDP, Oyetola Trade Fresh Legal Blows

The political crisis over local government administration in Osun State deepened on Wednesday as Governor Ademola Adeleke, the state government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) firmly rejected claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that its sacked council chairmen still have a legal right to remain in office.

Governor Adeleke accused the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, of masterminding the lingering crisis, insisting that the tenure of the APC chairmen expired in 2025 and cannot be extended under Nigerian law or Supreme Court precedents. He questioned the authority under which council funds were being disbursed, alleging unpaid salaries of health workers, teachers and retirees.

The Osun State Government cited ongoing court proceedings, noting that an APC suit at the Federal High Court was adjourned to March 4, 2026, due to the absence of APC lawyers. Officials maintained that the 2022 local government election was nullified and that no court has reinstated the APC chairmen.

The APC, however, accused Adeleke of misinformation, citing a February 10, 2025 Court of Appeal judgment it claims reinstated the chairmen, further escalating tensions in the state.
