The defection of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, to the All Progressives Congress has continued to generate reactions. Former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Istifanus Mwansat, has dismissed claims that the governor was forced to dump the Peoples Democratic Party.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Mwansat insisted that Mutfwang acted on his own judgment, describing the move as timely and strategic. According to him, the governor enjoys strong grassroots support and does not need pressure or political inducement to secure future electoral victories.
Mwansat argued that politics demands flexibility, not blind loyalty, especially when a political platform shows signs of weakness. He said a wise leader must anticipate political danger and make decisions that protect both leadership stability and the interests of the people.
Governor Mutfwang officially joined the APC on Tuesday after leaving the PDP, a development that has reshaped the political conversation in Plateau State. Supporters see the move as calculated positioning ahead of future contests, while critics continue to question its broader implications.
