Malami Alleges DSS, EFCC Violated His Rights, Vows to Defend Himself

Former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has accused the DSS and EFCC of violating his constitutional rights, following his recent charges and detention. According to his office, bail granted by the Federal High Court was obstructed when the EFCC delayed submission of his international passports, prolonging his detention.

Malami was reportedly rearrested by the DSS immediately after securing bail and held for five days without access to his lawyers or family. His aides claim this denied him the opportunity to properly prepare his defence in ongoing EFCC interim forfeiture proceedings.

The former minister’s camp described these actions as a “pattern of conduct” undermining due process, where arrest precedes investigation and evidence collection. Malami’s office insisted that judicial orders must be respected and that no agency should hinder legal representation or court-mandated rights.

Malami vowed to defend himself fully in court, urging all state institutions to uphold constitutional guarantees and the rule of law.
