The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly criticised Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, over his resignation from the party, accusing him of betraying the trust of the people who elected him.
In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Oladipo Johnson, described the governor’s action as disloyal and warned that such decisions often attract public judgment. The NNPP argued that Yusuf’s claim of an internal party crisis was unfounded, noting that recent congresses and elections supervised by INEC were peacefully concluded and successful.
The party further warned that the governor’s move could expose Kano State to political forces it said had historically worked against the state’s development. Drawing parallels with past political defections in Kano, the NNPP reminded the governor that history often favours loyalty over political convenience.
Despite the strong words, the party urged its supporters and Kano residents to remain calm, stressing that the will of the people would ultimately prevail.
