Nollywood star Mercy Johnson-Okojie has withdrawn all charges against TikTok content creator, Eedie Bliss, leading to her release from police custody on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
The TikToker’s freedom followed days of intense public criticism and social media backlash over her arrest, which many Nigerians described as excessive. The case took a dramatic turn after social media activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, accused the actress of using law enforcement to settle what he called a civil defamation dispute.
VeryDarkMan publicly demanded the TikToker’s release, warning that the controversy could damage Mercy Johnson’s reputation. Hours later, he confirmed Eedie Bliss’ release and commended the actress for dropping the case.
Eedie Bliss had been arrested over a December 2025 TikTok video alleging marital misconduct involving Mercy Johnson’s husband, claims that sparked outrage and legal action. While her release has been widely applauded, the incident has reignited debate over police involvement in online defamation cases in Nigeria.
