Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has opened up on his demanding outing for Nigeria after the Super Eagles defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties to claim bronze at the 2025 AFCON.
Dele-Bashiru was surprisingly deployed at right-back following an injury to Bright Osayi-Samuel during the third-place clash against the Pharaohs. The natural central midfielder admitted the role tested his stamina and gave him fresh respect for defenders who play there regularly.
Speaking after the game, Dele-Bashiru said he was exhausted from the constant runs but remained grateful for the team’s victory. He noted that adaptability is key and expressed readiness to play wherever the coach assigns him.
Nigeria bounced back strongly after missing out on the final following a penalty defeat to Morocco, ending the tournament on a positive note as Senegal and Morocco prepare to contest the final.
