Blackout Drama: TCN, IBEDC Disagree Over Oyo Power Outage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) have traded words over the cause of a recent power outage affecting parts of Oyo State.

IBEDC had earlier blamed TCN for its inability to deliver bulk electricity to customers on Thursday, January 15, 2026. However, TCN dismissed the claim, insisting it did not impose any load shedding during the period.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, TCN said operational records showed that the Idowa 33kV feeder was instead taken out of service due to a forced outage initiated by IBEDC. The transmission company urged the distribution firm to ensure accurate and factual communication with the public.

The disagreement has sparked public concern, as residents continue to endure unstable power supply amid conflicting explanations from the two power agencies.
