Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the defection of his son, Abba Abubakar, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the move as a personal decision.
Abba Abubakar recently joined the ruling party and pledged support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. In a statement, Atiku said he respects his son’s right to make political choices without coercion, stressing that democracy allows for divergent views even within families.
While distancing himself from the decision, Atiku reaffirmed his opposition to the APC, citing what he described as poor governance and the economic and social hardships faced by Nigerians under the party’s leadership. He maintained that his political focus remains on working with like-minded Nigerians to offer an alternative capable of restoring good governance, hope, and national progress.
