The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed receiving intelligence on recent United States military strikes against terrorists in Sokoto State but insists details will not be made public.
Speaking on Channels Television, police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin said the operation, carried out on December 25, 2025, involved intelligence cooperation but remains a defence matter. He noted that while the police are aware of specifics, disclosures could compromise security operations.
The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed that the strikes killed several ISIS-linked terrorists and were conducted at Nigeria’s request. President Donald Trump also acknowledged the operation, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to counter-terrorism.
Nigeria’s government said the strikes had presidential approval and formed part of a joint security effort. Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar stressed that the action was not religiously motivated but aimed at protecting lives and property, rejecting allegations of targeted persecution.
