Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has explained that his appointment by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 was built on years of trust, loyalty and shared political convictions. Mohammed disclosed this in his book, Headlines and Soundbites: Media Moments that Defined an Administration, launched in Abuja in December 2025.
According to him, Buhari’s confidence in his capacity was evident even before ministers were appointed, as he was personally selected into the Ahmed Joda-led Transition Committee in April 2015. He narrated how a direct phone call from Buhari led to his inclusion, despite not being initially listed.
Mohammed said his relationship with Buhari dated back to 2012 and was strengthened through years of political collaboration within the APC. He added that serving under Buhari for nearly eight years allowed him to witness the former President’s commitment to discipline, integrity and national service, values that shaped his role in government.
