A fresh controversy has hit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following claims that renowned political economist, Pat Utomi, is secretly working for President Bola Tinubu.
The allegation was made by a political figure, Franklyn Maduabuchi, popularly known as Cardinal Comrade Edede, during a telephone interview on Tuesday. He cautioned opposition leaders to be wary of Utomi’s growing involvement within the ADC.
Edede alleged that Utomi did not genuinely support Labour Party candidate Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election, but instead worked behind the scenes in ways that favoured Tinubu’s emergence. He further claimed Utomi played a role in the political split between Obi and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a division he said weakened the opposition.
According to Edede, the continued lack of unity among opposition leaders could again benefit the ruling APC ahead of 2027. He urged Atiku and Obi to unite on the ADC platform, insisting that internal division only strengthens Tinubu’s re-election chances.
