Former Nigerian Foreign Affairs Minister, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, has strongly criticised the United States over its reported military operation in Venezuela, warning that the action could trigger a global crisis.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Akinyemi accused former US President Donald Trump of recklessly violating Venezuela’s sovereignty, describing the move as a dangerous step towards a possible Third World War. He argued that while Trump accused others of fuelling global conflict, his own actions were escalating international tension.
Akinyemi warned that the growing instability poses serious risks for countries like Nigeria, which are vulnerable to global power struggles. He reiterated his long-standing call for Nigeria to build a strong strategic power base to protect its national interests in an unpredictable world order.
His comments followed reports that US forces captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, an action that has intensified diplomatic tension worldwide.
