The Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland, Alhaji Ali Ɗahiru Zungeru, has passed away, barely months after his turbaning as the traditional leader of the Hausa community in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Zungeru died on Monday evening, according to sources within the Sabo area of Ibadan. His death brings a sudden end to a leadership tenure rooted in a strong family legacy. He succeeded his elder brother, the late Ahmadu Dahiru Zungeru, while their father, Alhaji Dahiru Zungeru, also served as Sarkin Hausawa of Ibadanland in the past.
A senior community source confirmed that the late monarch will be laid to rest on Tuesday in Sabo, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The passing of Alhaji Zungeru has thrown the Hausa community in Ibadanland into mourning, with many describing him as a unifying figure whose leadership came at a crucial time for the community.
