Former Minister of Justice and African Democratic Congress (ADC) leader in Kebbi State, Abubakar Malami, narrowly escaped tragedy after his convoy was violently attacked by suspected thugs on Monday.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that nearly 10 vehicles were vandalized, with several of Malami’s supporters sustaining injuries in the assault.
Speaking on the incident, Malami stated that he was only in Birnin Kebbi to pay condolences to families of prominent individuals who had passed during his absence, dismissing claims of political campaigning.
“It’s a painful act clearly linked to politics. Some thugs came out from the APC state headquarters armed with dangerous weapons and stones, attacking and destroying our convoy,” Malami alleged.
He further declared: “When it comes to politics in Kebbi State, there is no retreat, no surrender.”
However, the APC’s Kebbi State Publicity Secretary, Isa Assalafy, denied the party’s involvement and condemned the attack, stressing that Kebbi remains a peaceful state. He accused security personnel attached to Malami’s convoy of escalating the situation by opening fire during the confrontation.
The incident has sparked serious political tension in Kebbi State as the 2027 elections draw closer.
