Insecurity Worsens Under Tinubu Compared to Jonathan – Jibrin Ibrahim

A political science professor, Jibrin Ibrahim, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s handling of insecurity, stating that the current administration has performed worse than that of former President Goodluck Jonathan. Ibrahim, who chairs the Editorial Board of Premium Times, made the remarks during an interview on Arise Television.

Reviewing Nigeria’s security situation in 2025, he described the year as extremely challenging, noting that insecurity has remained persistent and severe. He attributed the situation to the Nigerian state’s failure to fulfil its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and ensuring citizens’ welfare.

Ibrahim recalled that many Nigerians expected significant improvements when Muhammadu Buhari assumed office, but said the insecurity crisis worsened instead. He argued that Tinubu, who once criticised Jonathan over the Chibok girls’ abduction and rising violence, is now overseeing an even more troubling security situation.

He described the current narrative as disturbing, warning that Nigeria’s insecurity crisis reflects deep systemic failures.
