Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has officially declared his intention to contest the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. Bello made the announcement during a visit to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, where he met with traditional rulers, religious leaders and community stakeholders.
In a video shared on his verified Facebook page, Bello openly accepted calls to represent Kogi Central at the National Assembly. The event was attended by current Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, alongside other political leaders.
Reports indicate that Governor Ododo urged Bello to respond to appeals from party leaders and constituents seeking his leadership at the Senate. Bello, who governed Kogi State from 2016 to 2024, remains a key figure within the APC and a strong political force in the state.
The declaration sets the stage for a keen contest, as the seat is currently held by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
