IK Ogbonna Demands an End to Politics in Nigerian Cinema

Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has raised concerns over political interference in Nigeria’s cinema industry. On Instagram, he expressed frustration over the treatment of his film A Very Dirty Christmas, revealing that showtimes were repeatedly shifted, slots replaced, and even air conditioning turned off in theatres screening the movie.

Ogbonna emphasised that filmmakers pour their heart, soul, and countless hours into producing films, and such manipulations undermine their efforts and financial investments. He called for a fair and thriving cinema environment, urging industry stakeholders to stop politicising screenings and allow producers to share their work with audiences.

The actor’s statement highlights ongoing challenges in Nollywood regarding equitable distribution, cinema politics, and the struggle for producers to recoup investments while maintaining creative integrity.
