Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has advised Nigerians to learn to live peacefully with Fulani herdsmen, insisting that they are an integral part of the country.
Speaking in a video shared on X, Gumi said the herdsmen are Nigerians who cannot be driven away, stressing that coexistence is the only sustainable path forward. He warned that turning herdsmen into enemies could have grave consequences for national security.
According to the retired army officer, neighbours should never be regarded as enemies, noting that those closest often know the most about one another. Gumi cautioned that external forces could exploit internal divisions by using herdsmen against the nation.
He urged Nigerians to embrace dialogue and mutual understanding, warning that hostility would only deepen insecurity and threaten the country’s stability.
