“2027 Presidency: Nyesom Wike Breaks Silence on Tinubu, PDP, and Why He Won’t Run”

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has publicly dismissed speculations about his possible interest in the 2027 presidential race, declaring that he will not contest against President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking during his monthly media chat in Abuja on Monday, the former Governor of Rivers State clarified that his decision is based on loyalty, integrity, and character—not political ambition.

According to Wike:

“I will not run. I have integrity, I have character. There is no way my appointer is there, and we are saying he should run, and then I turn around and say I should run.”

The outspoken politician further revealed that without his sacrifices, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) might have collapsed completely. He stressed that his commitment to the PDP is rooted in genuine love for the party, rather than a quest for personal gain.

“I have said if we don’t love PDP, by now you won’t be hearing that name. I don’t need to be a governor for me to do what I want to do,” Wike noted.

He also cautioned opposition parties against arrogance and impunity, emphasizing that internal crises could destroy any party if left unresolved.

“No opposition party can survive when they have a serious crisis. The duty of the opposition party is to see whatever way they can solve their problem, and it’s not by being arrogant and doing impunity. I don’t need to be a governor before I cause a small problem.”

Wike’s remarks have once again sparked debate across Nigeria’s political landscape, with many questioning the future of PDP, Tinubu’s 2027 ambition, and the possibility of political realignments before the next elections.
