Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has openly declared that his successor, Senator Uba Sani, is not his friend, though he dismissed claims of a fallout between them.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, El-Rufai clarified that while he played a major role in Sani’s emergence as governor in 2023, their relationship has always been that of a mentor and mentee, not friendship.

“I’ve not fallen out with the governor. No, he is not my friend. He was my boy, my mentee. We have not fallen out. I still don’t speak with him,” El-Rufai said.
The former FCT Minister further expressed pride in helping many rise to prominence, but criticized the notion that he cannot comment when those he supported “derail.”
El-Rufai also alleged that Governor Sani was behind the attack at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) committee inauguration in Kaduna last Saturday. According to him, evidence exists linking the governor to the incident, and he promised to present it to the Inspector General of Police and relevant authorities.
He lamented Nigeria’s “collapsed policing system,” claiming that police operatives were present during the attack on opposition figures but did nothing.
The former APC chieftain, now aligned with the opposition coalition under the ADC, continues to be a vocal critic of the current administration’s policies both at the federal and state levels.
