The Imo State Police Command has dismissed reports alleging the mass abduction of passengers travelling from Owerri to Aba along the Ngor-Okpala axis. The rumour, circulated through a viral social media video, claimed that 14 passengers were kidnapped. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, clarified that the footage was from an old incident earlier in the year and was deliberately recirculated to create panic.
According to the command, investigations confirmed that the original victims were rescued at the time, and there has been no recent mass kidnapping on the route. Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information that could trigger fear, especially during the festive period.
He further assured that security has been strengthened along all travel corridors in collaboration with other agencies, while residents were advised to stay alert and report suspicious activities via the police emergency line.
