Labour Party Pushes Ahead With Ward Congresses Despite Internal Crisis

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has conducted its nationwide ward congresses despite ongoing internal disputes and a restraining order from an Abia State High Court. According to the faction’s spokesman, Obiora Ifoh, the exercise held on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, recorded strong turnout across all states except Abia, which was exempted due to a court injunction secured by the Alex Otti-led faction.

Ifoh stated that the congresses were approved at the November 28 NEC meeting attended by INEC officials. He added that the party’s legal team is working to vacate the Abia injunction. He accused “fifth columnists” of spreading misinformation about a nationwide cancellation and warned that circulating falsehoods could attract legal consequences. The faction says it is focused on restructuring the party ahead of the 2027 elections and will move on without members unwilling to align with its direction.
