Gunmen who abducted a bride and twelve others in Chacho village, Wurno LGA of Sokoto State, have contacted the family but made no ransom demand. The bride’s father, Malam Umaru Chacho, told journalists that the attackers insisted only on speaking with the community’s traditional ruler.
The midnight attack targeted the bride’s family home, where the assailants went straight into her room before taking her, her bridesmaid, two male relatives, and nine other women. One victim, believed to be the bride’s brother, was shot and remains in critical condition after being moved to a neighbouring community due to lack of medical facilities.
Residents say this is the tenth bandit attack in the last five years, with over 30 people killed. The village, which lacks hospitals and security presence, remains in fear as families plead for government intervention.
