Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has expressed deep sadness over the passing of respected Islamic scholar Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, describing him as a national treasure whose death is a heavy blow to Nigeria and the Muslim Ummah.
Obi praised the late cleric as a revered Hafiz of the Qur’an, a man of peace and a father figure to millions. He highlighted Sheikh Dahiru’s decades of spiritual guidance, scholarship and leadership within the Tijjaniyya Sufi order.
Offering condolences on behalf of his family and the Obidient movement, Obi extended sympathies to the cleric’s family, Bauchi State, and the entire Tijjaniyya community. He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and eternal rest for the 98-year-old religious icon, whose death was confirmed on Thursday after a brief illness.
