Trump Bars South Africa From 2026 G20 Summit Over Rights Abuse Claims

US President Donald Trump has declared that South Africa will not be invited to the 2026 G20 summit scheduled to hold in Miami, escalating tensions between both nations. In a statement posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump accused the South African government of ignoring alleged “human rights abuses” against white farmers and failing to formally hand over the G20 presidency to the United States after this year’s summit in Johannesburg.

The US previously boycotted the Johannesburg meeting, claiming South Africa’s priorities on climate and trade conflicted with its policies. Trump further alleged a deliberate “white genocide,” a claim South Africa has repeatedly dismissed as false.

The G20 summit—comprised of the world’s major economies—is expected to take place at Trump National Doral Miami in December 2026. This latest diplomatic rift adds to the already strained relations between Washington and Pretoria.
