A grieving family has accused medical staff at the General Hospital, Etinan, of alleged negligence following the tragic death of a woman, identified as Rehoboth Clement Okon, during childbirth.
According to her brother’s account, Rehoboth, who was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, was admitted to the hospital but reportedly did not receive urgent medical attention. Despite repeated calls from the attending nurse, the on-call doctor allegedly failed to show up in time.
Instead of conducting an emergency cesarean section, the hospital staff allegedly opted for induced labor, which dragged on for several hours. Tragically, the unborn baby died during the process.
The family further claimed that:
- The hospital pharmacy was closed at the time.
- There was no blood supply available.
- Vital drugs had to be purchased outside the facility, causing dangerous delays.
Her brother alleged that a midwife tried to stabilize Rehoboth after delivery but could not stop the excessive bleeding. By the time the doctor reportedly arrived, Rehoboth had already passed away.
This heartbreaking incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns over the state of maternal healthcare and emergency response in government hospitals.
The family is now calling for accountability and demanding answers regarding the circumstances that led to her untimely death.

“On the 16th of August 2025 my sister Rehoboth Clement died out of negligence.
His Excellency Governor Pastor Umo Eno PhD, the Doctor that was suppose to be on call at General hospital Etinan refused to show up for a pregnant woman with Pre-eclampsia,The Baby died inside her, instead of them to conduct an emergency Cs, they induced her for hours, the baby died inside her and she bled to death, there was no blood on stand by, no drugs, the hospital pharmacy was close, before they could go outside to buy drugs the girl was weak, the midwife did all the delivery and stitching.
Even when she has cervical bleeding and the nurse kept calling the Doctor, but he refused to come, he showed up when she had bled to death.
