Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has raised alarm over Nigeria’s growing insecurity, declaring that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) pose a greater threat than armed herdsmen. Speaking publicly, Gumi distinguished the two, noting IPOB attacks security agencies and government institutions, unlike bandits, who primarily kidnap for ransom.
“IPOB is targeting the police, army, INEC, and government offices, killing those serving the nation. Herdsmen kidnap for money, not to kill,” he explained, urging fairness in how crimes are assessed.
Gumi’s remarks come amid escalating violence, including abductions, attacks on communities, and clashes with authorities. He reiterated his call for dialogue with bandits as a way to curb kidnappings and restore stability—a stance that continues to provoke debate across the nation.
