If Nnamdi Kanu shows remorse, i will call for his pardoning — Sheikh Gumi

Renowned Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, says he would have championed the release of detained IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, if Kanu had shown genuine remorse.
Speaking on Channels TV’s The Morning Brief, Gumi reacted a week after Justice James Omotosho sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment on terrorism charges and ordered his transfer to Sokoto Prison.

Gumi maintained that despite Kanu’s conviction, a public show of repentance and a call for peace could influence national reconciliation. He added that he would personally advocate for amnesty if such remorse is demonstrated.
His comments have stirred fresh debate on national unity, extremism and the path to peace.
