Nigerian fintech giant, Paystack, has terminated the employment of its Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following viral allegations claiming he engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct with a junior staff member.
Olubi confirmed his dismissal in a blog post on Saturday, 23 November 2025, stating that the company acted before concluding its investigation into the matter.
Allegations Spark Widespread Online Debate
The controversy began in mid-November after a viral social media post accused Olubi of misconduct. The claim triggered further scrutiny as users resurfaced several explicit tweets linked to him from earlier years.
Paystack subsequently announced his suspension and revealed that an independent investigator would be appointed as part of a formal review process.
Olubi Rejects Company’s Procedure, May Take Legal Action
In his statement, Olubi insisted he was neither invited to a meeting nor given an opportunity to respond before being dismissed. He argued that the termination contradicted the conditions of his suspension and violated Paystack’s internal policies.
He noted that his legal team is now reviewing the circumstances surrounding his removal and will take appropriate steps.
Old Tweets Resurface, Industry Under Pressure
Screenshots of explicit tweets allegedly posted by Olubi between 2009 and 2013 continued to circulate online, intensifying public scrutiny.
The development has further ignited conversations about workplace conduct and accountability within Africa’s rapidly expanding tech ecosystem.
Awaiting Official Response from Paystack and Stripe
As of the time of filing this report, Paystack has not issued a fresh statement responding to Olubi’s claims.
It also remains unclear whether Stripe — Paystack’s parent company — will intervene or comment on the situation.
Any legal action from Olubi could lead to more disclosures and clarify the company’s decision-making process.
