Thirty-eight worshippers of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Oke Isegun, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State have regained their freedom after days in captivity.
In a statement issued in Ilorin on Sunday, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, through his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed the release of the abductees, describing it as a major relief for the state.
According to the Governor, the rescue was achieved through the direct, hands-on involvement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who personally coordinated efforts to secure their freedom.
“The abductees were freed today, November 23, and the Governor is immensely grateful to President Bola Tinubu for his direct initiative that made this happen,” the statement read.
The Governor revealed that President Tinubu even called off his scheduled trip to the G20 Meeting in South Africa to focus on the security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States, and also ordered heightened deployments to bolster operations in the affected areas.
Governor AbdulRazaq also appreciated the commitment of the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Nigeria Police Force, which deployed four new tactical teams on the President’s directive.
He further thanked security personnel, religious leaders, community supporters, and all Kwarans for their unity and prayers throughout the ordeal.
