The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Education, has issued a clarification regarding the alleged closure of schools across the country due to insecurity.
In a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade, Director of Press and Public Relations, the government refuted circulating media reports about school closures, labeling them as false.
The ministry emphasized that the circulating message on social media, claiming a nationwide school closure directive from November 24, 2025, is misleading and did not originate from the government, any State Ministry of Education, or recognized security agencies.
“The public is strongly advised to rely strictly on verified information issued through the following official channels: The Federal Government, The Federal Ministry of Education, State Governments, and State Ministries of Education or recognized security agencies,” the statement read.
“Any announcement, advisory, or notice coming from unofficial or unverified sources should be ignored and not shared.”
The public is urged to verify the authenticity of information before spreading it to curb misinformation.
It is worth recalling that the government previously announced the closure of 47 government-owned schools in the northern regions following student abductions, notably in Niger and Kebbi States.
