The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticized the cancellation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s planned trips to South Africa and Angola due to the rising insecurity in Nigeria.
This criticism was issued by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, on Thursday. He described the President’s cancellation as a superficial gesture that does not address the worsening security crisis in the nation.
Ememobong highlighted that the President’s decision came amidst a national outcry over the kidnapping of twenty-five schoolgirls in Kebbi State, labeling it as “the latest and boldest example of tokenism.”
He argued that while the gesture might seem sympathetic, it does little to tackle the escalating insecurity nationwide.
“If the APC-led Presidency disagrees with this position, then we demand that President Tinubu temporarily relocate to Kebbi State and other conflict zones in Northern Nigeria,” Ememobong stated.
He further suggested that such an action would compel security agencies to act more decisively and improve the morale of troops on the frontlines.
“As President and Commander in Chief, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not remain in the comfort of the Presidential Villa when 25 schoolgirls have been abducted and remain missing,” he added.
The party also referenced recent attacks in Kwara State as part of the daily fear faced by Nigerians, accusing the administration of offering denials, rationalized explanations, empty assurances, and superficial gestures like the President’s cancelled trip.
