US Congressman Riley Moore has expressed concerns about the lack of trust Nigerian citizens have in their government.
Moore made these remarks on Thursday during a session of the US House of Representatives Subcommittee on Africa, which is currently examining former President Trump’s decision to redesignate Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ (CPC).
“The Nigerian people don’t trust their government. How can you trust a government that doesn’t show up when you ask them to?” Moore stated.
He emphasized the necessity for the Nigerian government to collaborate with the United States to tackle the pressing issues of insecurity.
Moore highlighted a recent incident in Plateau State, where a pastor alerted the Nigerian authorities to an impending attack, warning of imminent danger within 24 hours and requesting urgent assistance.
“The Nigerian government not only ignored the warning but also issued a press release dismissing it as fake news,” Moore added.
The Congressman plans to meet with a delegation of senior Nigerian government members to discuss the severe insecurity issues in Nigeria and the US designation of the country as a CPC.
