President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to embark on a diplomatic visit to South Africa and Angola, departing from Abuja.
The President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced this in a statement on Tuesday.
According to Onanuga, the President will first visit Johannesburg to attend the 20th G20 Leaders Summit, followed by his participation in the AU-EU Summit in Angola.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, currently serving as the G20 group’s President, extended the invitation to his Nigerian counterpart for this year’s summit.
Previously, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had also invited President Tinubu to attend the summit in Rio de Janeiro during his group’s presidency in 2024.
The Summit, scheduled for Saturday, November 22, to Sunday, November 23, at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, will convene leaders from the world’s top 20 economies, including the European Union, the African Union, and major financial institutions.
The statement noted that President Tinubu is also expected to engage in bilateral meetings to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda and discuss regional and international peace, security, and development.
Following the G20 Summit, the President will join other Heads of State and Government from the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) for their 7th meeting, set for November 24 to 25, 2025, in Luanda, Angola.
The AU and EU meeting will convene young leaders, innovators, and civil society organisations to address shared challenges faced by the two unions.
The forum aims to provide recommendations on tackling issues like climate change, development inclusivity, infrastructure, the digital economy, the creative industry, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
President Tinubu will be accompanied by key government officials, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar; Finance and Coordinating Economy Minister, Wale Edun; Solid Minerals Minister, Dele Alake; Trade and Investment Minister, Jumoke Oduwole; and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
