Troops of the Nigerian Army deployed in multiple operations have successfully thwarted terror activities, rescued kidnapped victims, and recovered arms and equipment across different regions in the last 24 hours.
A credible source at Army Headquarters revealed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday that the operations spanned Kebbi, Katsina, Edo, Niger, Plateau, and Abia States.
In Kebbi State, troops under Operation FANSAN YAMMA swiftly responded to a distress call at Dundaye village, Augie Local Government Area (LGA), around 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Unfortunately, terrorists had already killed two civilians and rustled cattle. However, troops pursued the criminals along their withdrawal route and have since intensified patrols to deny terrorists freedom of action.
Similarly, troops of the 17 Brigade in Katsina State responded to gunfire in Layin Minista village, Malumfashi LGA, around 10:50 p.m. Terrorists fled upon sighting the soldiers but managed to abduct two women. The Army confirmed that aggressive patrols continue in the area to restore public confidence and secure the victims’ release.
In Edo State, soldiers from the 4 Brigade under Operation MESA conducted a midnight Search and Rescue (SAR) mission in Ugboha community, Esan South-east LGA, on August 29. They successfully rescued a civilian who had been kidnapped two days earlier near Amedokhaian community while heading to his farm. Efforts are ongoing to reunite him with his family.
Meanwhile, troops of FOB Babanna in Niger State recovered an AK-47 magazine loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition abandoned by insurgents during a previous encounter.
The military assured citizens that operations remain in full force, stressing its commitment to neutralising threats, rescuing victims, and restoring peace nationwide.
“Our troops remain resolute in their mandate to safeguard citizens and deny criminals the freedom to operate,” the source affirmed.
