Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter Aituaje Iruobe, widely known as Waje, has stirred online conversations after boldly revealing her standards when it comes to choosing a life partner.
Speaking on the latest episode of The Honest Bunch Podcast, the 45-year-old music star stated clearly that she cannot date or marry a man who is struggling financially, stressing that at her age, she has no patience to “build” with anyone.
“I can’t marry someone who is not successful, and here’s why: first of all, I’m not in my 20s, so we are not growing together,” she said.
“A man leads, he leads by selling aspirations to me. I have to aspire to see him lead. And if he can’t inspire me to grow, we can’t be partners. So, success is part of it. Faith and emotional intelligence are also part of it.”
Waje, a mother of one, added that she values emotional maturity and leadership in a man, noting that she has reached a stage in life where she knows exactly what she wants.
The “I Wish” crooner also disclosed that she cannot date a younger man, saying the relationship would likely clash with her strong personality.
“We will have issues. I’m very pragmatic. Sometimes I have to hold myself with my siblings, my friends, and my family members. Imagine if it was a husband? He would get tired. I will be treating him like my child. He would hate me,” she explained.
Her comments have since sparked reactions across social media, with fans divided — some applauding her honesty, while others accused her of setting unrealistic standards.
While many fans hailed Waje for “knowing her worth,” others argued that love should not be determined by financial status.
Still, one thing remains clear — Waje knows exactly the kind of partner she wants and isn’t afraid to say it.
