Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has warned leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prepare for an intense political showdown with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, as the party’s internal crisis deepens.
In a viral video posted on Facebook on Sunday, Fayose described Wike as a “fearless fighter” who never retreats once provoked, cautioning party stakeholders not to underestimate his political strength or resilience.
“I know Wike very well. If you have wahala with him, you either run or find a way to settle it; otherwise, he will give you double of whatever you bargain for,” Fayose said.
He added that Wike’s current rift with PDP leaders was only the beginning of what could become a major storm within the opposition party.
“If you look for one pound wahala, he will give you 20 pounds. If you look for ₦20 trouble, he will return ₦500 worth. This PDP matter, as far as Wike is concerned, is just starting,” Fayose warned.
The ex-governor’s comments come amid fresh leadership turbulence in the PDP following a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that restrained the party from holding its planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Justice James Omotosho, who delivered the ruling, ordered that the status quo be maintained pending the determination of the suit filed by some aggrieved party members.
Following the ruling, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) suspended several key officers, including National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade, Deputy Legal Adviser Okechukwu Osuoha, and National Organising Secretary Umaru Bature, for one month.
In what appeared to be a counter-action, a faction loyal to Anyanwu announced the suspension of Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum and appointed Mohammed Abdulrahman as acting chairman in his stead.
The development has further deepened divisions within the party, with observers warning that the internal feud could weaken the PDP’s structure ahead of future elections.
Political analysts say Wike’s growing influence within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and his continued presence in the PDP have created tensions that may soon erupt into a full-blown confrontation.
