Police Intensify Election Security Training Ahead of Anambra Governorship Poll

The Anambra State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election, as it sustains its election security training programme for officers and men across the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Awka, the state capital, noting that the training is part of a strategic effort to guarantee a peaceful, credible, and well-secured election.

Police Strengthen Election Preparedness

Ikenga stated that the ongoing training — organized in collaboration with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders — cuts across all area commands, divisions, and tactical units in the state.

“The Command has continued to expose its personnel to intensive election security training and refresher courses,” he said. “The focus is on professional conduct during elections, crowd management, intelligence sharing, inter-agency collaboration, and protection of human rights.”

CP Orutugu Reaffirms Neutrality and Integrity

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, emphasized the command’s dedication to neutrality, professionalism, and integrity, stressing that the training sessions were designed to boost operational readiness and safeguard voters, electoral materials, and officials before, during, and after the poll.

“The command remains committed to upholding neutrality and professionalism throughout the election period,” Orutugu said. “These capacity-building efforts will ensure that our officers are fully prepared to secure the election environment and guarantee citizens’ safety.”

Police Appeal for Public Cooperation

The police commissioner also urged residents to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security agencies to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.

“We call on all residents of Anambra to remain calm, obey the law, and work with security operatives to achieve a hitch-free election,” the statement added.

The Anambra governorship election, scheduled for November 8, 2025, is expected to attract wide national attention due to the state’s political significance and prevailing security concerns.
