A Police Inspector attached to the Lagos State Police Command was among four persons feared dead on Thursday morning following a multiple-vehicle crash involving five articulated trucks on Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
According to reports obtained by Naija News, the crash, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, caused major traffic gridlock and left several others injured.
Confirming the tragic incident, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, who visited the accident scene, described it as “very unfortunate” and expressed grief over the loss of the police officer.
“It’s very unfortunate that we lost one of our police inspectors who came with our advance team to salvage the situation,” Jimoh told The PUNCH.
Preliminary investigations, according to the Commissioner, revealed that the accident was triggered by a trailer that suffered brake failure, leading to a chain collision that involved five articulated trucks at the border between Ogun and Lagos States.
“We have a case of multiple accidents… five vehicles were involved, all articulated trucks. Precisely, three people have been rescued from the scene,” he added.

Emergency agencies, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other security outfits, were deployed early to manage the situation.
“As early as 5 a.m., we have been on it, and we have other agencies here assisting us,” Jimoh said.
As of press time, joint rescue efforts were still ongoing, with authorities working to remove the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow along the expressway.
The Commissioner urged articulated vehicle drivers to adhere strictly to safety standards and vehicle maintenance, warning that recklessness and negligence often lead to avoidable loss of lives.
“We want road users, especially those driving articulated vehicles, to stop this kind of recklessness… if they are not reckless, we won’t have this kind of accident,” he cautioned.
